Maralinga Mabel at the Opera House

|||||
Maralinga Mabel at the Opera House is a homage to those dreadful monster movies which rolled out of Hollywood during the Fifties, apparently in response to the paranoia of the Cold War.
Maralinga was the site in the South Australian desert where the British tested some of their atomic bombs. The normally gentle koala is transformed here into a giant and violent beastie. The F111 on the sinking warship refers to the plane which was dubbed the "Flying Opera House". The Centrepoint Tower was unfinished at the time of painting. |
