Psyche, in search of Eros

It was only after my brother had died, after a long illness, that I realised how dark this painting had become. I had been painting it during the last few months of his life. Although he lived in England, and I in Australia, we remained close to the end. He was an extremely talented and amusing person, although he did have his difficult moments. Fortunately, I was able to see him regularly on my trips to London. The story of Psyche, abandoned by her lover, the young God Eros, because of her lack of trust, reminds us to accept our dearest ones as they are. Psyche is often depicted by the Greeks as a butterfly. |
