Palermo, the Capital of Sicily, has some outstanding examples of Mozarabic art and architecture, a hybrid culture fusing early Moslem and Christian design ideas. I am not certain whether the ancient, red-domed church in question began as a Christian or a Moslem holy place, since I have read and heard utterly contradictory accounts of its history.
Cubists, like Braque and Picasso, tended to use the earth palette (which consists mainly of browns and greys). In keeping with the Mozarabic tradition of hybridism, I sought to create a "neo-cubist" work which contained a comprehensive array of saturated colours.
