The Japanese Garden in The Cotswolds

This is the largest painting I have ever done. It is 65 feet long and about 5 feet high. It is an outdoor mural on a roofed wall which is a backdrop to a Japanese Sand Garden. The garden in question is in the Cotswolds. It was painted in the mid 1960s, when I was living and studying in England.
My brother, Viacheslav, designed the garden. It was featured in the Kubrick movie, A Clockwork Orange, as well as appearing in several garden magazines and books. The wall painting is a homage to the magnificent mural in the Temple Garden of Ryoanji in Kyoto. Below are two close up views of the main "white cloud" feature of the mural. There are a number of photos of the garden itself and of the house on this site. To view them, please CLICK HERE. They are well worth a look. |
