Entrevaux is a village high up in the mountains, North West of Nice. There is a narrow-guage train which runs from Nice to Digne and which serves a number of mountain communities, including Entrevaux.

It was a fortress stronghold in years past, with a fort way up the hill reached by a fortified set of steps and walls.

You can clearly see the walls going all the way to the fort at the top of the hill.
These water fountains are a blessing in hot weather, and can be found in most of the places I have visited on this trip in France.
This is Porte de France, one of the old Gates of Entrevaux. It led me out into the countryside beyond and along a flowing river. There were good views from the path of parts of Entrevaux.
From the river path, you can see the semi-circular top of the Porte de France.
Part of the pleasure of visiting Entrevaux was the train journey there, and back to Nice. We passed a number of hill top towns along the way, and travelled through rugged gorges carved by the swiftly flowing river.
