I wasn't planning to stay in Nha Trang but I am glad I did land here.

When I was in Hoi An I decided to go to Da Lat in the Southern Highlands. As I was experimenting with various forms of internal travel in Vietnam, I decided to catch a Sleeper Bus from Hoi An to Da Lat. Alas, thanks to the poor conditons of the roads, the Sleeper Bus broke its axle and we waited in a tiny village for 3 hours while the axle was being welded together again. After another two hours on the bus, we arrived in Nha Trang and I discovered that the journey on to Da Lat would take another 12 hours... on the same bus with its dodgy axle. I decided to get off the bus and stay in Nha Trang. That was an excellent decision.

This is the interior of that Sleeper Bus.

There are three rows of double-decker reclining bunks, with two aisles between them. Apparently, the bus companies tend to overbook on such trips so mats are placed in the aisles for extra passengers to sleep.

There was a toilet at the back of the bus, but ours had a sign saying that, while it was OK to have a pee in it, please don't do a poo.

That was the last time I used a Sleeper Bus in Vietnam. Mind you, they did seem to be quite popular with younger backpackers on a tight budget.

The structure in the background of this photo is an ancient Hindu Temple.
This photo was taken on the edge of Nha Trang, facing North. The coastline here is quite mountainous, with just a few plains between the hills.
This tiny island off the coast of Nha Trang has a Buddhist Temple perched upon it.
Another shot of that Temple Island.
This is a cable car which takes passengers from the mainland to an island which has a large entertainment park, called Vinpearl. It seemed to be very popular with the kids. Lots of fun rides, apparently.

Hint: catch the Number 4 bus from Nha Trang to the Cable Car Station. It will cost you about 25 US cents.

Aeroflot has cheap package deals from Russia to Nha Trang so many of the tourist offices have signs in Russian. I studied Russian when I was a kid so I could read most of the signs.
